mechanism quality doesn't effect operation speed for any mechanical device, however, it does improve the quality of the attack if the mechanism is used in a weapon trap (and possibly spike traps)

normal/superior/masterpeice quality are all the same speed of triggering
masterpeice will be more likely to hit and to do more damage then normal quality

I'd like to see this experiment repeated without the use of a pump to move the magma to it's destination holding room. (IE the magma is flooded into the room normally and then once full, sealed from the source with a floodgate.

I'm going to assume the water flows off the edge of the map or into a chasm, because my player has a broken window size and couldn't stand to see it through to the end.

Water 'teleports' to the orthographic tiles nearest to the farthest connected 7/7 water. You could have 10 or even 100 units of water "flowing" through a channel into a chasm, and the water will never rise from the channels' level because all the water just teleports to the end where the chasm is.
