I've been deliberating if I want to send in the troops (the Granite Bells again. They have the best equipment, skills, and some thirty kills to their name including one dwarf with twelve) or if I want to flood the entire cave with magma for hilarity's sake. Sending the troops in would be fun, but I'd also have to worry about forbidding everything in there beforehand so civilians don't go running in blindly. Then I'll have to manage a bunch of hauling jobs that the slaughter would invariably create (or, again, I could forbid the hell out of everything). Right now I'm leaning towards nuking the cave from orbit and letting Armok sort them out. Hey, at least the fort will have awesome engravings of everything melting if I do!

The mountain carving must have taken ages to do. I'm doing that on a simpler scale on my fortress Citybite for a farming terrace and a defense tower but nothing like this. How long did it all take?

It won't be hard to stay away because of the size. The map has plenty of room. However, it will be hard to stay away because of the temptation of sending in some dwarves to stir up some mayhem.

Yeah, I realize this, but I'm actually enjoying making a "gimmick" fort for once seeing how the last fortress I made, Claspedsack, went beautifully but was overwhelmingly vanilla-flavored. I might consider breaching the aquifer later (I'm still learning a bit as I go), but going with the wood thing seems fun, especially with so many trees all over the place.

The only downside is right now I can't really trade for very much since there is very little I can manufacture with all of my wood going to building the central tower.

Oh, I got 7 more migrants too.

The z-levels are not nearly as daunting as I first thought. It was harder making stairs work than navigating around. I knew there was an aquifer going in, but I had no idea that it would be this crazy. There is literally nothing but clay and loam as far as I can tell on the map, but at least it makes for easy farming. It's actually fun doing things this way. There are enough trees to build a tower I'm planning, especially if I trade in stone and other materials for the loads of shell and bone I'm generating from the plentiful fishing in the area.

They actually look for glass blocks as well? The thing he dwarf was fixated on was "rough... color" and I had the three types of glass manufactured and every non-rare gem mined. He had already grabbed one piece of raw crystal glass, but after making a second, he wouldn't go for it.

And they do demand specific items sometimes. This particular possession wanted platinum ore and platinum ore only (that would have been one mother of an artifact).

And for the circular rooms, I made the decision after making the arena because I decided that something about circular rooms in fortresses looks almost... unnatural in a dwarven fortress. That and the fact that they take a whole lot of effort to make.

You know... forget circular rooms. Dwarves like things hard and straight. Curves are for pansy-ass elves and weak humans.

I especially love the name considering that my fortress has a military squad named "The Rough Balls."

I love my fortresses because they always run well, but they never look nice...
