This layer, below the workshops and the farms, and above the great hall, provides several drinking pools for dwarves during cold periods, and when alcohol is short (wtf? alcohol shortages, not in this fort!). The pools are connected by tunnels on the layer below, eventually drainage will be extended to the east and connected to the farm pumps to provide a constant flow of fresh water from the surface. - Markavian
