Did you want to put a pool in the middle of the dining hall?

Consider digging a ramp for that poor hammerdwarf? And how does he avoid starving, anyway?

The "short to long" defence sounds briliant. It sounds so good, in fact, that I plan to adopt it in my next fort!

Magnificent! Layer after layer of intricately-patterned rooms and corridors show some serious design work.

Also like the tileset!

If your map is slow starting out, it will only get slower as you play - slower and slower, until you quit in disgust.

I've learnt this the *hard* way. Consider a much more modest map and init.txt settings.

Now see, what we have here is what they call a *quality* fort!

About the throwing of adamantine thrones in the magma:

It's all about role-play. It's a only a waste if you can't imagine the grandeur of a king under the mountain.

I've seen a lot of extraordinary forts, but I've never seen anything that beats this. The scale of the workings, the age of the fort, the preposterous number of blocks, and the almost superhuman (or even superdwarven!) tenacity of the player makes this a fort for the ages.

This was deeply worth seeing. May your beard ever be stained with booze!

Yeah, I edited the map description recently because of the change to the new forum, and therefore of the links.

I really envy the fun you've had with magma, water, fire, and underground trees. Looks like you had a great time for a good long time with this particular fort!

I do like the accented lake and the mosaic above it. Always nice to see a fortress designed for beauty! :)

I started adding beds when I learnt that chained dwarves refused to to sleep without one adjacent. Don't know if this oddity ever got fixed, but I've gotten used to it now.

Thanks, quift!

I actually don't think this design is at all well-suited to handle sieges and megabeasts. The defensive plan consists of three strongpoints (side towers, valley fort) and one minor guarded entrance (plateau approach). The basic problem is that the dwarves have to walk so far to assemble, and the megabeasts or goblins can appear so close to the fortress (due to the smallness of the map). Imagine trying to defend a place that takes two full days - 48 hours non-stop running, no stops for food or drink - to get from one end to the other of!

I like it. Booze, weaponry, and a ship to sail the seven seas - aye, aye, matey!

Just one bit of confusion: Are the sails furled - they seem mighty short?
