I will end up having to dig down into the caverns anyway to provide drainage for my watermills (no wind).
The main fortress will definitely be in the cliffs, and circular towers, a main southern one and a small northern one for storage.

Amazing.
If i had a magma pipe around a river, in a valley, major or not, I would also attempt this, but I lack confidence in my skills as a planner and would likely drown them all. I didn't know green glass was magma-proof, which is extremely useful. I'm done importing bauxite now. I also like the underwater pressurized access with the walkway going through it.

Looks like some poor miner drowned down on the bottom floor.

The Impromptu Jails

I'm placing gobbos, orks, and daemons into these little leftover cells and sealing them away. Since they're functionally immortal (due to the limited duration of the fort), they'll be fine here. - RPharazon
