Ha, good to hear from you again.

It's not a natural pit, but one I dug out. The borders are defined by the terrain though. There is going to be a little plaza at the bottom eventually.

Thanks ajr, I was really enjoying this fortress myself. Sadly, an Orcish siege in the winter of 189 caused several deaths and instigated a tantrum spiral. I have since found that reclaiming a lost fort leaves friendly Orcs on the map, and that kind of killed the mood for me.

Hey Qjet,

Oddly enough, the fortress doesn't look that impressive in Visual Fortress. Perhaps it was my whole "don't disturb the mountain" philosophy, but the fortress doesn't stand out that much when rendered by VF.

Can't wait to see how things have progressed.

Also, I really like the whole Chasm Entrance. Maybe I'll have to try something like that in my next map. My first ever attempt at a Chasm map failed when I lost 4 of my founders to skeletal giant cave swallows.

The tiles and graphics were originally made by Plac1d. Its on the wiki site. I thought he had the best graphics but the original resolution is too small. So I doubled the recommended screen resolution. The graphics now remind me of the little pixel guys from Colonization (or maybe Civilization 2). I've since tweaked a few of the graphics and tiles to suit my own tastes.

I should have mentioned, this tileset and graphic set was made by Plac1d. His stuff is still being updated in the DF wiki site. I have made a few small changes to his original artwork though.

Entry

The design for the entry into the fortress was a fairly simple affair. A long row of bridges hooked to a lever can be activated to smash invaders.

Two tile wide bridges raise to the south, one tile wide raise to the north. This maintains enemy AI pathing, meaning they will charge down the corridor and get smashed. Two chained piglets at the end of this prevent thieves from sneaking inside. - Jimmy
