In these towers, marksdwarves can be stationed in the event of a goblin attack during a caravan trading session. Not because I care about the caravan's survival, but because all too often human caravan guards will scare the attacking squad off before even one dwarf can add another goblin notch into his dog leather kill belt.
The roof on top of the depot has a small bridge, currently retracted, that connects it to the rock ledge to the left. With the bridge lowered, cages with goblins caught in the traps can be set up and hooked to a lever, to be released for target practice. -
