I salute you, for you have achieved what many a dwarf could not even dream of, this is not a mere fortress, this is a mountainhome of mountainhomes. Even the mighty Nist Akath is little more than a hole in the icy ground compared to this symbol of Dwarfkind.

Once again, I salute you, this is what all aspiring expedion leaders should strive for. Thank you for showing this to us.

And then abbandon and reclaim, trying to find a way to drain the fort...
Now there's a project worth of a community game.

The spire is natural, except for the sheer cliff on the southern end, I dug that out. When I embark, I take a look at the site and determine what I want to do with the fort and how to achieve it. I went for impressive because the site worked so well with that. Then I made the entrance bridge, and went on from there.

I don't want to bother you or anything, but are there going to be any updates on this? I'd like to see this thing reach completeness.

Wow, just, wow.
Wow.
this is so awesome it hurts my ego, I can imagine that dome, lined with towers, jutting out of the landscape, sitting in a seemingly bottomless pit, covedred in windmills, battlements, siege engines, spires, domes, balconies...
I'm stealing the idea.

Why thank you, I specifically searched for the site to have a chasm and long cave river so I could build a 3d fort with features as much like the 2d version as possible. That's the reason I built so far from the magma pipe, which is, by the way, causing some serious timing problems seeing how long it takes for new magma from the pipe to reach the advancing front. A new update will be coming soon, involoving a lot of redened river.

Build a depot somewhere, press D, any farther than 3 Z-levels from the surface will be flashing red, areas that are completely black contain a feature. Like HFS, Magma, Chasm, river, etc.

Oh, and I have a rpoblem with parkbulders falling into the chasm...

WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!
One cannot flood the world with mere water, it has to be the infinite source of renewable fuel: MAGMA!

Players these days, thinking you can flood the world with water...

That map is AWESOME. You should make your entrance a tunnel into the hill on the other side of the low river, and then a bridge a few levels over the river, into the hill. The upper river is also awesome, as it's guarded by carp, but they die off when tossed off the waterfall.
You should build your fort around the waterfall with an infinite supply of falling carp corpses, that has got to be a sight any dwarf would kill for. A central stairway tower with walkways twisting off suspended above the river split would be epic.

Gobbos thrown into the moat for some reason will wake up and walk into your fort to start lootin' an' pillagin'. Just mentioning.
