These is my food stockpiles. Notice it's made of several 5x5 small areas? It serves at least two purposes:
1) The roof doesn't come down.
2) Can be cleaned up with kennel building/destruction to remove rocks, before designating the stockpile.
You'll see this motif repeated constantly throughout the fortress.
The little 3x3 open "rooms" on top are for workshops. The idea is to have some sort of workflow between stockpiles, so for example, wheat from one pile gets processed into flour and put in a different one, and then cooked and placed in a separate pile also. -
