I've been liking the "silo" designs a lot lately - this particular fort is sort of a "Let's Play" with the members of Connect the Song room on turntable.fm - insomuch as I'm using their names for the dorfs

I like how your surface fort looks like now. Bolts & Statues. The spike trap menaces with upward piercing spikes. Magnificent! Simple & Pretty dwarfen sheit!

Yeah, I'm hoping to set up traps all through that forked passage. I just ran out of stones recently (first time ever!) so I couldn't make any more mechanisms. Also, the barracks will be relocated to where the paths join up, so there's always some military dwarves between the invaders and the rest of the fortress.

Cool entrance. It's like a secret entrance. You're going to need a buttload more traps though if you get siege/ambush.

The above ground walls are ugly, I know. I never was much good at architecture. At first I was planning to keep grazing animals out there so I walled off a large area. But then I realised the grass wasn't going to go grow back and they're a pain to manage anyway.
