ey
This is what a dwarven fortress should look like!

Magnificent and mysterious, a masterpiece.

edit: Not so mysterious, but simplified in greatness.

It's now 21 years old (started in year 200). Thanks, I can't remember where I came across the use of bridges to protect Marksdwarves, but given the amount of damage a couple of elite missile goblins can do it's proven very useful in the past!

64-bit quad core @ 2.66 GHz with 7GB RAM

water is flowing, waterfalls are working, dwarves are running... I have it capped at 20 fps. it sometimes drops to 10 right after unpausing, but then it climbs back up fairly uickly.

And it is a community RPG, so come join us. You may one day rise to power, unless your mutilated corpse will be found in some ditch...

You can smooth edge walls, and then you can carve fortifications in it.
You can not dig out whole edge, but fortifications are ok for water flow.

I can close entrance totally in any case of troubles :)
And take dwarves down into fortress.
Or I can loose my trained marksdorfs, okay. :(
One real danger are flying creatures. Gonna make bridge-roof against them. Gonna let my military suntun anyway - or I'd build whole fortress deeper.

efficient ! how come you manage to get en exit for the waterflow ?? it seems possible to dig an exit to the map border.. or is it dfhack ? your entrance seems solid, though fortifications can be dangerous if you have elite marksgobs on th other side... deadly dangerous...
