I understand next to nothing about dwarven computers and fluid logic, but this looks impressive/scary as hell. Bravo! (cool tower too btw)

Very pretty design! Can't wait to see what it'll look like when finished. And I'm sure you can think of something to move that bin of artifacts :P

That river is WICKED. Great site, especially since you got it aquifer-free (astoundingly indeed). Lots of Fun lurking in the water as well, I see.

It... sort of works. Hooking up all the repeaters to all the different bridges and spike traps and whatnot was taking godsdamned forever, so I gave up on that. Currently the goblins run straight through the labyrinth, across the magma largely unassailed by the lazy marksdwarves, stand around while the eagles ignore them, run across the incomplete bridge/spike room, and then generally outrun the flooding room. The whole process takes like half an hour, so no, I won't be taking a video, but I tried it out a few times and it was kind of disappointing anyways. Needs way more micromanagement than I have time for to hook everything up.

Heads-up on why your river/brook's not filling - it's filling from the west and draining from the east. With a regular-size brook it can keep itself full at the same rate it drains, but with a whole second offshoot to fill, I advise floodgates until it's filled up again.

( I feel obligated by guilt to post something substantial now >_>; )

Yeah, if you're having size limitations you might not be using the map compressor, located here. I've never had any size issues thus far, nor do I know anyone who has - looks like you manually squished the map in Paint a bit, too. No worries; you won't have to do anything like that once you have the compressor.

Also, I'm curious - what's the labyrinth on level 1 for? I'm seeing an animal stockpile at the end (or maybe built cages)... are you planning on building a lever in the middle, then having a noble pull it, thus forcing the noble to run for his life through the labyrinth while pursued by newly-freed beasts? Or am I getting ahead of myself here?

"When I first came here, this was all swamp. Everyone said I was daft to build a castle on a swamp, but I built it all the same, just to show them. It sank into the swamp. So I built a second one. That sank into the swamp. So I built a third. That burned down, fell over, then sank into the swamp, but the fourth one stayed up! And that's what you're going to get, Urist."

RE: The fort name: groan.

I do really like how you built into the natural curve between rivers on level 17 though.

Wow! I'm glad you added some POIs; I looked at the map when you uploaded it earlier, but there's a lot I never would have seen otherwise. Tremendous fort!

In response to your 'The Only Exit' POI, I'd guess the imps just swam up onto that ramp to the left of the pipe and then got into the fort that way. It looks like you have a drawbridge lock in place, but the imps can climb out of the magma right onto the ramp. I'm guessing you have fortifications in the paths to under those magma buildings as well, but if you happen not to, that's the other likely candidate as you don't have all the exposed magma tiles under the magma buildings covered by the impassable tiles.

Sounds great, I'll drop you a line when the new version's out. I got an idea for a partner-based contest that I think would be pretty cool.

Also, uploaded some more VF screenies here. Stalactites are visible. Check 'em out!

Nice. I like the room design on levels 10 and 11, especially the checkerboard bits.

He's inquiring as to your fortress' unorthodox name, which I'm curious about as well. Any story there?

Whoa, nice stuff here. I'm always a fan of open-air caverns, and the style and design on this is very nice as well.

I had a tough time finding your fort, so I added a default POI. Hope you don't mind. I like the approach ove the brook, although I should point out that if you raise those bridges the enemy will still be able to walk up to them and destroy them if they have a [BUILDINGDESTROYER] tag.
