View / ReplySubmitted by: Noble Digger - 2010-01-14You know, this fortress was intended to be my "final DF40 fortress blowout" before Toady finishes the next release... I chose this large embark thinking I'd dick around a bit but it ended up getting good FPS. I have an Intel Core 2 Duo with 2 gigs of ram and it runs smoothly at 35+, slowing into the low 20s when dumping is going on. I haven't started moving liquids at all, which is going to CHOKE it. |

View / ReplySubmitted by: Noble Digger - 2009-11-19Wow, I love your workshop complex, I may steal some of that. Also a big fan of the smokestacks, a design I've used in a couple forts before. |

View / ReplySubmitted by: Noble Digger - 2009-11-19Goddamn. I had a fort that I worked on to test out Stonesense (40d16 can't export images so it's just sitting on my HD) and the key idea was that I removed a huge cube of the map and left behind a tower with a pyramid on top of it. I'm curious what manner of strategies you use for deep excavation. Mine was all ramps from the top down and careful long-term planning. |

I know in some situations, you can un-smooth a smoothed tile by building a wall on top of it and then removing the wall. It's also possible to wet floor tiles via bucket brigade if the room is accessible from above. Simply make a lot of buckets and designate a channeled tile above the farm plots as a Pit Pond and dwarves will conveyor belt buckets of water into the hole until you tell them to stop. |

So, consequent of keeping our Mayor, Iden Spreadoiled, aka Medtob Lashburns the Vampire locked up in the pump house, we kept hosting a random assortment of dorfs. After considerable time, the old expedition leader (and miner extraordinaire) Zuntir CrewedBanners took it on herself to ask them what they were doing here. They were looking for the mayor.
Forgetting why he'd been locked away, she set him loose, and after the foul monster had sated itself, they finally got to meet with it.
Suitable impressed with our constructions, they asked for noble recommendations. Forgetfully, or carelessly, it nominated three dorfs to the position, one of whom it shortly after murdered.
We dug out quarters for the baroness, Feb Soldiergates of marble along a cobalt vein. When the baron Aban Apexship arose, a parallel chamber was dug.
When they started fighting over quarters, the newly appointed (under dubious circumstances) mayor Urved Cavernportals, who strangely has no friends ro family here, picked the baroness to favor. So she gets the statues of hamsters, rocs devouring elves, and a Jabberer named Dang falling to its death in the flush trap (Daaaang.)
Now we're a county. Woo hoo. We'll see if this doesn't drive poor Aban to suicide. He's been grouchy lately. -
