I've always wanted to do more 45 degree stuff but I've never gotten right... this is pretty sweet tho. you should really get a tileset with smooth corners, like this one

(fyi you can carve fortifications into built walls)

One of the earlier players was going to build a big temple in there, but I guess he was interrupted by orcs or a tandrum spiral or something and lost the fort. One or two reclaims later and its just another entry in Sparkgear's long tradition of "half-built and/or looted vanity projects that dwarves never use and other players just build around."

Dwarves can fall down up/down stairs, but it doesn't really happen outside of combat and sparring.

This fort's gotta be humming like a well oiled machine now, do you have any long-term projects planned?

nice utilization of the natural terrain on that entrance... I foresee some "Engraved on the wall is a picture of a goblin. The goblin is falling." in your future..

Where does that river drain to? Do you have a chasm hidden somewhere down there?

Loving that bridge; I'm tentatively planing to copy your support style for the entrance ramp on my current fort. The designs for the lower levels are also pretty amazing...

I actually haven't gotten an invasion (due to the bug, mostly) since the entrance ramp was fully closed off. Before that I was having some trouble with ranged enemies sniping my staircases. Otherwise, though, it works great; I have huge piles of gear on a number of those bridges, ready to be dropped.

That will be my entrance road, designed to both efficiently kill invaders and to use gravity to bring their gear to the trade depot's doorstep.

I've actually worked on Frozenstone for three different periods. The second of those started when I found out about partial print, the third when I bought a new computer. Shutting down the river also made a large improvement.

So is that a magma moat you're making, or just water? And is that obsidian? Either way, that castle will be epic when you're done.

The riverbed tombs are a sweet touch too.

Thanks! Figured that was probably the problem with the farm. Too bad I didn't know, I could have just collapsed some soil onto it.. too late now. Whatever, though; not like I'm short on food.

Right now I've got the fortress looking pretty much the way I want it; I'm mostly training my military. When I get a marksdwarves up to legendary, I plan to dig down to the adamantium (I assume there's some down there because I have a dungeon master and have for a while) and/or figure out how to mod in larger and more frequent seiges--I wanna see exactly how many goblins it would take to overwhelm a fully stocked and prepared Frozenstone.

Other projects in the pipeline include walling off some more tree farms on the top of the mountain, training some of my farmers and miners to be competent marksdwarves for tower-based militia, and of course making as many bolts as I can. With so much flux and iron around, this is really about getting bone and wood. I already have tons of metal bolts.

I'm also thinking about using the open air above the water channels to make my fort more interconnected. This would definitely make my dwarves more efficient and increase the chances of them hitting mist. The only reason I hesitate is that I'm worried the increased pathfinding will slow down my computer to the point where it's not worth it. My FPS is already at 5-6, and with ungodly amounts of food and strong defenses, that's really the only form of efficiency I care about. Anyone have suggestions on this?

Basic stats:
116 dwarves (capped at 120), 17 legendary
2.3 million created wealth
4300 drink
2900 prepared food (plus 350 meat, 200 fish, 600 plant, 300 misc ingredients)
15 artifacts
2 melee champions, 1 axelord, 1 macedwarf, and 17 marksdwarves, all of which are trained at least somewhat in wrestling and the use of hammers and armor (some are all the way to adapt in these melee skills).
45 steel bars, 60 bars of fuel, 20 platinum and iron, 5-15 bars of everything else (mostly gained from trading; this map doesn't seem to have much besides iron, flux, and platinum, not like I'm complaining)
700 bolts of iron, another 700 of steel
