I hope you'll keep working on this. I really like the number of z-levels that the river delta gives you to work with which are easily fortified. But I tend to agree, Peasants are the best kind of dwarf you can get! You know why? With a single "Cut gems" job, you have just turned him bright green and changed his title to Jeweler. When he gets a fey mood, he will make an amazing gem-based artifact.

Whether it's a spiral or more of a lazy, sailing half-arc to impact, tantruming dwarves will crumble your fort. :) However, if you can just survive the invaders long enough to make sure food, refuse, and drink services remain intact, and keep 2 or 3 loner dwarves who aren't affected by death busy, you might get immigrants... And I'd go ahead and make them all soldiers :D If the dining room and food are nice enough, and they have a proper barracks, you might stand a chance next time a siege comes.

'To each his own' is my creed,

and to the rest, a dip in the moat.

Edit: Though, if you'd like to see how this fort looks in a tileset of your choosing, feel free to suggest one and I'll export a screenshot using yours. It used to take 20+ minutes to complete the whole process, but with DF31.08 it takes 20 seconds give or take.

Some of the grates were scaffolding for things that needed to have their floors mined out so they could collapse. Some are in place just in case water gets in there--which is never likely to happen, but I enjoy building that sort of thing for the eventuality, especially if it adds something else to the fort at the same time. Some are there to trick forgotten beasts into going a certain way--they can't cross over grates because they try to destroy them instead.

Ooh. I don't much care for this tile set, but it makes the underground look pretty cool. I like the giant X-ploratory mine. :)

I love that manner of spiral staircase! Ramps are often underused.

At what age do they become adults, and how do you plan to prevent inbreeding?

I love your fort entrance. Very small and innocuous. Time to get ambitious with digging deeper IMO, since you seem to have a functional industrial area now that can feed, furnish, and protect the fortress.

Very nice, man! I love rounded things and especially towers. Now bonus points by making your tower taller via digging an 8-tile circular moat around it going down as deep as you dare to make it. Caverns? To seal those off, construct walls for your cylindrical geo-front. DO EET
