My first map with the z-axis. It's got fairly elaborate gate defenses, a diverted brook, and other things.
I built this log cabin partially to give my ranger (woodcutter/herbalist) a place to sleep and mostly for flavor. When a dragon came to my fortress, it set up camp inside of it, destroying all of the furniture except for the bed. My champions, one axedwarf and one speardwarf, took it out without injury. You can still see some of the ashes from its one breath attack. - nil

To the east, the shaft that supplies sunlight to the first, failed surface farm. To the west, the second, successful farm. - _nil_

This area is vulnerable to fliers and ranged attackers shooting from above, but otherwise it is only accessible from within the fortress (the access point comes off from one of the main towers). I eventually hope to wall off more of the mountaintop, allowing my rangers and carpenters to work without fear from ambushes without constraining my wood supply--which is important, as this map has tons of iron and nearly unlimited flux; the only thing limiting me from building anything and everything I want out of steel is fuel. - _nil_
