Elderstone - 305 Late Autumn by mattmoss

Map Description:

Lots of progress... More dwarfs; the Dungeon Master; north tower excavation going well (despite losing another miner from rock to the brain); huge amount of food and booze; more things getting moved inside; and I've cheated the Elves twice now! (They deserve it.)

Point of Interest: The First Dead

I've had 8 dwarf deaths so far. A hunter killed by a fire imp (it was later killed and turned into lovely fire imp stew). Two miners brained. A child fell onto a ledge down in the pit, dropped by her mother stunned by a minor cave-in. Some others.
This was originally the office for the trader, which was moved early on into a room next to the depot. Since then, this room has served as an early gravesite. - mattmoss

Δ 28. (Still) Temporary Campsite
There is still a lot going on out here. Food is mostly moved indoors, and the next big thing will be to create some furniture stockpiles in the north tower and move indoors all the furniture you see out here.
Eventually, this area must be cleared so that the south tower can be excavated. - mattmoss

Δ 27. Siege Operator Training Grounds
Two catapults allow siege operators to skill up; plenty of loose stone around after all that excavation. - mattmoss

Here you can see the central tower and the top-most level of the north tower. (The south tower is outlined for reference; east tower not shown here yet.)
Ballistas are setup and loaded with spare ammo; I have three operators who are training on catapults elsewhere.

Δ 23. Archery Range
Finally, I picked a place for the crossbow dwarfs to train. The stockpile between the two stairwells is bolt storage. The archery range includes fortifications along the north wall that will allow crossbow dwarfs to shoot at incoming evaders that managed to get past the ballistas one floor above. - mattmoss
Δ 23. Food Storage
Right above the food industries is food storage. This is mixed pre-/post-production. (That is, there are plants, meats, seeds here along with booze and prepared meals.) Later, when this tower is more developed, the pre-industry foodstuffs will likely remain here, while the post-industry foodstuffs will get distributed to a planned dining room and beer garden. Currently, the NW stockpile is just booze... over 1000 units currently. - mattmoss
Δ 23. Gardens
These haven't changed much... a few outdoor plants and a few indoor. I have enough booze and foodstuffs from trade that this hasn't been a priority. Eventually it will be made nicer and produce more, though I'd like to secure the area first. - mattmoss
Δ 23. The Walled Outdoors
Surrounding the farms, plants and some trees is this double-wall, incomplete at the moment. (I'm a stickler for staying with one kind of stone block for a particular construction, and I need to make more basalt blocks.)
Right now, the wall is only one level high, but it will be raised up a few levels, blending into the mountain (and with other entrances blocked... i.e. natural mountain up-ramps removed).
Once done, it will be secure from the outside and the only way into the area will be from the fort itself. I may eventually add a gate to the greater outdoors, but that is low priority. - mattmoss
Δ 22. Dungeon Master's Suite
The Dungeon Master arrived, and she demanded an office, bedroom, dining room and burial chamber. Well, she's got the first three here; she'll have to wait on the crypt until I decide where to put them. - mattmoss
Δ 22. Food Industries
Stills in the northwest (with a small pile of empty barrels); kitchens in the northeast; one farmer's workshop in the southwest. This area is just beginning, but is enough to provide for the dining needs of all the dwarves, inside. More will be coming (more small container stockpiles, windmills with millstones, etc).

Δ 22. Mayor's Suite
Here are the three rooms the mayor requested: office (central), dining room (above) and bedroom (below). The mayor is quite pleased. - mattmoss
Δ 18. What remains...
One of my miners dug out a section a few levels up in such a way as to drop a boulder into his own skull. It killed him instantly, and his body fell down to this ledge within the bottomless pit.
I couldn't see all his gear go to waste; you can see the access stairs just a bit to the south. What remains is a bit of torn clothing. - mattmoss
