Map of a resettable piston pump which uses cave ins to transport magma from the magma sea up a total of 157 z-levels that needs only 7 magma proof pumps and one water pump. More details in forum thread

Dwarven science at it's finest. It makes sense so long as you forget everything you thought you knew about the workings of the world.

This is like back when people first discovered how to breach the aquifer with a cave-in, sometime after z-levels were implemented. MAGNIFICENT!

Δ 174. Old obsidian caster
This is the original obsidian caster, which i don't use because it is frozen for half the year - Fenwah
Δ 172. Magma removal thing
This is the reservois where i pump the magma after the piston brings it up. It is designed to have the right amount of space so that once it is full there will be ~2/7 left in the catchment area. Then i dump water to rebuild one level of the piston. Then I open doors to return magma untill there is ~2/7 on the level above the top of the piston, then dump more water. I do that once more, then pump all the magma that is left in the sides of the catchment area back into this top bit. The magma there now has no purpose - its just the leftovers from the last cycle (the rest is powering my forges) - Fenwah

This is the top of the mighty piston - Fenwah
Δ 169. Pointless walls and stuff
Theres lots of pointless bits lying around, like these walls. They are there because i have changed designs and had to rebuilt bits that i mined out. They don't have any purpose, although they did turn out to be handy access corridors. - Fenwah
Δ 167. Catchment
This is where the ring of hatches is. Most of them are hidden so that they don't obscure flow amounts and i forgot to unhide them before uploading this map. - Fenwah
Δ 17. Magma cistern
This is filled from the magma sea using dwarf powered pumps (because i couldn't be bothered with making a power plant this far down). The raised bridges are there because walls would support the piston, and just mining it out would leave magma there when it's time to mine this section to reset, which would cause all sorts of trouble. Theres also a support down here holding the piston up, but it is hidden by the magma - Fenwah
