Picked a location at random and embarked. There's a salt water aquifer here that I've already dealt with. No metal whatsoever. Should be fun(tm).

As I said there is not a single scrap of metal ore on this map so when a moody dwarf claimed the metal smith's forge I thought he was done for. Fortunately the human caravan arrived with a couple of gold bars and now he's churning away on...something. - Lemunde
