Map right after embark. I have disabled many features such as Invaders, Artifacts, and so on, as well pregnancies and limited the number of dwarves sharply, so that this time, hopefully if I don't get bored, I manage to make an above-ground functioning fortress.
This is also in a game modded to a degree, as I have made some critters stronger, able to live longer, many more critters have been made tameable, and megabeasts and semi-megabeasts have been given quite a boost (not that it matters since invasions are off though, but if I play long enough and decide to enable them again once I consider the fortress complete, I may turn that stuff on and play with the fortress a bit.
