This is the last point in my first multi-year fortress. I will continue to learn from other people's designs and improve my skills at this game. I hope you enjoyed my little journey into DF. :P

You can download the compressed map file: Urvadäkil--Sealpoints--Early-Autumn-1054.fdf-map but you will need the .NET version of SL's DF Map Compressor to convert to the .PNG image format.

You don't have to mark the titles as 'closed' all the time! Just post a note in the description... it messes up the map series if you keep changing the name.
Afterall, its a map archive schm0, make it easy for people to read about your forts!

But... but... it's so pretty. What made you close it?

It shall be reborn, in a much bigger and better layout. :) Try a seven to eight tile wide moat and a 65-square diameter ring. :)
The moat will be constructed such that it will not interfere with bridges during seasonal floods, and I won't have to worry about floodgates being raised and lowered every time. Also, the bridge spanning the river will be redone so that dwarves will have an easier time getting back to dry land. I was thinking of three bridges, one central and two adjoining. Farms to the south (and north), as well, to provide a spot for a dwarf to come to shore.
I've been working out a lot of the flaws in my design, but there were a lot of things I really liked about it. The Ring allowed traffic to flow evenly on both sides, even though it was more distance to walk around. My original ideas for The Ring were to have something that would force an invading enemy to walk around a series of fortifications from which my archers could cherry pick the enemy. Perhaps the new design will allow room for a ballista arrow or two, as well as several squarish buildings to the north and south of the main entrance for catapults.
My goal is to have a fortress that functions with moderate efficiency and with a unique design. I plan on keeping a similar bedroom/apartment layout that I had in Sealpoints, but with room for Nobles. I want to be ready for them, instead of trying to keep up with their demands when they arrive.
Any more suggestions for version .2 alpha?

You definitely made it unique, the design looks fantastic, I hope you can pull off such a great style with improved operational efficiency in your next fortress! Make sure you post a link back to this, or forward to your next one once you get going.
