DF Map Archive - BBCode Explained

BBCode on the Map Archive

BBCode, or "Buletin Board Code" is a way of adding rich text formatting such as bold, italic or hyperlinked text to a page. Most description fields and comments on this site support BBCode, which means you can improve the content you post by adding formating. There are also some shortcut codes you can add which may save you time when linking between articles on the map archive.

Basic Examples

The following text contains [b]bold text[/b], [i]italicised text[/i], and a hyperlink to [url=http://www.google.com]a search engine[/url].

The above text can be entered into the description field as a map description, comment or point of interest... and when displayed will look like this:

The following text contains bold text, italicised text, and a hyperlink to a search engine.

The text surrounded by the BBCode tags was formatted as appropriate to the tag. In this case, the [b][/b] tags made the text inbetween bold. [i][/i] tags made the text italic and the [url=][/url] tags applied a hyperlink to the text.

Internal References

You may have noticed that each map entry and point of interest added to the system comes with a unique ID number. For example, the fortress of Mirrorag has the ID 55 at the end of its hyperlink address. If you know a map's ID, it can be used to create a quick hyperlink. For example:

One of my early fortresses, [map=55]Mirrorag[/map] has a vast magma moat which traders must cross to enter the fort.

This is then converted to:

One of my early fortresses, Mirrorag has a vast magma moat which traders must cross to enter the fort.

The same can be done for Points of Interest. Each point of interest has its own ID which is displayed at the end of each link.

The [poi=5]main meeting hall[/poi] in one of my fortresses is a large circular room where four streets connect.

This is then converted to:

The main meeting hall in one of my fortresses is a large circular room where four streets connect.
